Can someone help me please. Suddenly there is no sound in my computer, it was fine till the previous day.
I have tried all the troubleshooting options except bios resetting.
The audio device is conexant AC-97 & the OS is windoes XP, on viewing properties it says device is working properly.
I see the problem when i try to open volume control, it says 'NO ACTIVE MIXER DEVICE'.
I also see the problem when i go to control panel, sound audio devices. On clicking the volume tab it says 'NO AUDIO DEVICE' and when i click audio tab none of the options are highlighted.
I can't understand why and how this all happened
Can someone help me sort out my problem please
Thank you |

How I would have done it.
Uninstall the drivers.
Delete the device from device manager.
Reboot.
Reinstall.

Make sure you have your driver cd handy for your soundcard. Or download the correct ones from the internet.
Use an Administrator class account.
Right click on My Computer, then select Properties. Click on Hardware. Next, click on Device Manager. Look for Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Open this section up and find your soundcard. Right click it and choose Properties. Click on Driver, then Uninstall. Follow any uninstall wizard through and when you are done, shut down and restart your computer. You will be prompted to install drivers when the computer restarts.
Follow the wizard, and post back if you get confused. |

List all of them, please.
The drivers often end up slightly corrupted. Not enough that Windows detects a problem with them, but enough to stop them from making sounds. Reinstalling is an easy, quick and often successful fix for sound problems. If it doesn't work, we will check your speakers to see if they are working, next.
