This thing is driving me nuts. The spyware name is hitbox and it pops up on such sites as ESPN or newegg. It just adds an ad banner somewhere on your page. Overall it's not that big of a deal but I want to get rid of it.
I ran scans of hijackthis.de and everything came back fine. However, when I run spybot it detects hitbox and I delete it. Then I run the Internet and it comes right back. I haven't booted into safemode and run Adaware and SB (I'll do those later today when I get back home) but has anyone had this problem before I have a direct solution on how to fix it?
Thanks!

That didn't work.
Booted into safemode, ran spybot and adaware - nothing. Nothing came up from hijack this. Checked the registry for possible entries of hitbox but still came up with nothing.
I really have no clue where this thing could be. Any other suggestions anyone? |

Hello,
Are you sure it's a virus, and not a Tracking Cookie? Clear your Cache on whatever Browser you are using. Run Adaware, and Spybot again, and see if anything comes up. If I remember correctly Hitbox is a Tracking Cookie, and not a Virus. I hope that this helped. Take Care. |

It is a tracking cookie. That's what I'm aware of. My question is in regards to why does it keep coming back? |

Hello,
Depending on the website(s) that you go to they will always be there, just like a normal cookie. Another few more examples are zedo, casalmedia. I don't know how IE works...I don't use it, but in Firefox you can exempt cookies from going onto your computer, I have all tracking cookies exempted...so far no problems going onto websites. However, sometimes the tracking cookies still come back onto my computer, under a modified name. Just remember to clear your cache often, and run Adaware & Spybot on a weekly basis, and you'll be okay. I hope that this helped. Take Care.
