| 32 bit color, 16 bit icons!? YUCK AHHHRG!!
Ok, i have a problem with my icons showing as 16 bit when im in 32 bit color
im in windows 2000 and suddenly all my icons showed up in 16 bit, i said no problem, itme for a reboot. i rebooted and...! 16 bit colors?! so i check my effects tab in Display properties, "show icons suing all possible colors" was unchecked. i checked it, hit apply, and rebooted...guess what go back t odesktop all icons are still 16Bit! did a registry trick and say "icon BPP" was at 16, i set it to 24, reboot and icons are STILL 16 bit. so i uninstalled my video drivers, reinstalled, and SAME THING!
anyone have any ideas? im out of thoughts. they just suddenly all appeard in 16 bit!
im clueless!
thanks |

What resolution are you using? I have seen my icons change back to 32 bit after changing the resolution from 800x600 to 1024x768 and rebooting. No idea what exactly the problem is, but I have experienced the same thing with Windows 98 and 2000.

Even I had the same problem with Win2K (using SP2). Today some how the icons started displaying in 16 colors. After lot of tweaking nothing worked. So in frustration I deleted the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics] Key and rebooted the machine. And to my surprise the Win2k started showing Icons in true color (you may need to check the "Show Icons in all possible colors" in display properties). Hoping this will work for you all too ! Nishant
