Thumbs up Floppy Drive not reading disks

    Edit: Problem Solved
I just bought a new floppy drive but it doesn't seem to read any disks that I have; the same disk, however, can be read fine on my other computer with a different floppy drive. I'm pretty sure the connections are correct. When I try to read a disk, the LED on the floppy drive does turn on, but I always get the "Please insert a disk into drive A:." message and I can't even format the disk. Did I receive a defective product? Before I even try to return it, what else should I try? I am on Windows XP.

Does the light on the floppy drive stay on all the time or only when it is trying to read the disk?

Only when it is trying to read it. It will stay on the whole time if I have the "Please insert disk" warning message still open, however.

I read that if it is always on, then the ribbon is placed upside down, but I think the ribbon can only be placed one way on mine. I don't think this is the problem...

    Maybe it's a defective drive.

Try flipping the cable to see if that does the trick. You have nothing to lose trying it.

LOL! I found out the problem... it was so stupid. I only had the IDE ribbon attached; I didn't know I had to plug in the mini white thing to the floppy drive too. I thought floppy drives didn't need that much power. :P It's working now! Sorry.
