    Blue screen after BIOS update

So I tried updating my BIOS on an M2n-SLI Deluxe motherboard and upon restart I am confronted with a blue screen, Technical Information: STOP: )x0000007B. Is there any way of reverting to the previous BIOS version, i.e. jumper on the motherboard? Anyway what is the next step that I should take?

Well typically when you flash a bios you create a back-up copy of the old bios just incase did you do that? if so you can just flash it back to the old one! the stop error is related to an inaccessible boot device, did you clear the cmos after the flash and set-up the new bios properly?

I used the ASUS update program and flashed from file, the clear CMOS option was checked in the ASUS update utility and when it asked me to reboot I did. I got the blue screen when XP was tryin to load up.

hmm, thanks for the link, Im running a chkdsk /r right now, its taking forever but I'll let you know how that goes. This is really mind boggling, I just wanted to update my BIOS and I end up getting stuck facing a possible reformat. I used the ASUS update utility for the update which is suppossed to make things easy, this has hardly been the case. Anyway, besides a chkdsk /r which I am running right now and a repair install, what could I try? I seem to remember reading that some motherboards have a jumper switch on the motherboard to revert to the original BIOS, does that make any sense? anyway, Im freakin out.

I cant boot into safe mode.

Was there a specific reason for the bios update? I typically don't recommend an update unless there are some changes in the newer bios that are needed or there is an issue with the old one.

Looking back I probably shouldnt have updated, the BIOS was an update for new CPU types but I figured a new BIOS is better than an older BIOS. Anyway, I am running a chkdsk /r off the OS CD and it just went back to 50% from 75%, is that normal?

Did you do this yet? Whenever the BIOS is updated, you almost always have to go back into the BIOS and re-define all of your old settings for CPU, memory, boot drives, etc, especially if you had something set to a non-default value.

That could definitely be a possibility, I did some overclocking on the older BIOS, could that be causing the problem ? How would I go about resolving that issue? can i just ask the BIOS to restore the default values?

I had stuff set to none default values but it seems everything has reverted, I had the CPU OCed to 2.6 GHz from 2.4 and now its back to 2.4.

okay so I did a repair install but then at a certain point at the windows install (device install at 34 minutes left) it asks me to install an Nvidia CD for the network bus, I install the CD but I don't have any keyboard or mouse functionality! How the heck do I get around this?

That is odd. Are you using a USB keyboard and mouse? If you are, try swapping in a PS2 keyboard and mouse.
