| Rare windows problem, please help... I have a very rare problem with my computer, when I download anything from the internet even windows defender or internet explorer 7, I get this error when trying to install the software: “file blocked because unknown publisher” anything I mean anything I download from the internet gives me this error, and when I save the programs to my computer and I try to run them from there it says that the file its corrupted. I reinstalled windows and same problem, and I can’t even get any windows updates. Can someone help me with this problem, thank you. Software downloaded: Java virtual machine Windows defender Internet explorer 7 Divx player Spyware blaster Windows service pack 2 (service pack its already installed on windows but thought was corrupted) All this programs gave me that error.

Did you do a System Restore, or did you format and complete do a fresh install?
If it was just a restore, then a virus might be an option, for which I would recommend running TrendoMicro HouseCall since you can't download anything. |

Seems like others have had similar problems.. there are a few ideas here: Quote:
There are two options in Internet
Explorer/tools/internet option/advanced - security that set security for
digital signatures which you can change, even if just temporarily, if you
trust the publisher and want to install the application.
| Quote:
I have found that if "allow software to run or be installed even if
signature is invalid" is enabled then in situations like yours you should
have the option to install the software after you acknowledge the warning.
Otherwise if you can examine the certificate and trust it you can go to the
certification path page, select the top CA in the path, select view
certificate, if you trust it go to details page, select copy to file, select
name and path on your computer and save it. After you save it double click
the .cer file you saved and select install to start the certificate import
wizard which will install that certificate into your trusted root CA store
which should keep you from seeing the unknown publisher message.

From Microsoft's website: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro.../sp2brows.mspx Quote:
All file types that are signable and that can potentially harm a user’s computer are checked for publisher information. This information will be shown to the user before opening the file.
The publisher information is shown before opening a file type that is signable and that can potentially harm the user’s computer. The Authenticode dialog box presents this information to the user, who can then make a more informed decision about running the file.
Why is this change important?
This change helps bring consistency and clarity to the experience of downloading files and code to a user’s computer. The publisher check provides crucial information when a signature is found in a file and provides a systematic way to prevent files that are from suspicious publishers from compromising the security of a computer.
What works differently?
Files with blocked publishers are not allowed to run.
How do I resolve these issues?
You can unblock a publisher of an add-on by using Manage Add-ons in Internet Explorer. To unblock a publisher to enable the download of a specific file, you can remove the publisher from the Untrusted Publishers list. To do this, in Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Options, click the Content tab, and then remove the publisher’s name from the Untrusted Publishers list.

| It could possibly be a virus because even Microsoft software its on the list of untrusted. But where this virus is possibly hiding I formatted my hard drive! |
