| Remote Assistance is hard to use for beginner user
I am tired of tell them to do things is waste my time so I try tell them on MSN IM and they see request for remote assistance but they say msn im not support so they download but still say download msn . I am sick of hear them say computer is slow or freeze or virus or pop up too much.
How you got success access another computer?
I try offer remote assistance and type their computer name like hdfd-643587cfg then try connection and I get message say error say The remote server machine does not exist or is unavailble then I try IP but same result.

The IP has the be their internet IP, not their LAN IP (like 10.0.0.2 or 192.168.0.2). And they also have to enable Remote Assistance at their end (right click My Computer, Properties, Remote tab and then tick box Allow users to connect. The user account they are logged in with has to have a password for this to work.
It also doesn't work too well over dial up.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
Mick

They are enable and I told them to go danasoft.com to find IP then gave IP to me but not success.
So how I can find right IP? Is there software tell you find IP and do I should tell them go to network connect then find IP?
They are on DSL and Cable |

If they are behind a firewall/router they will need to allow Remote Assistance through. Windows Firewall has an exception for RA, and most routers with NAT have port forwarding that will allow RA through (RA post is 3389).
The user will need to know what they are behind.

Well you will need to allow port forwarding for the lot of you, then, I think. You will need to allow port 3389 as well, I think, so the signals get back to you. Not sure that's necessary, though, but they will need to allow Port 3389 through, definitely. And don't forget windows firewall if that is on as well.
Cheers
Mick
BTW, D-Link has a tutorial for this online.

Remote Management for DLink routers to is enable you to manage the router over the internet. You don't need that. What you need to is port forward port 3389, using the steps in the page I linked earlier. At least, your friends have to forward port 3389. That lets you access Remote Assistance in windows XP Pro. Xp Home doesn't have Remote Asistance enabled by default, I believe, so if they have that you may have to get them to install VNC instead. You will still need to forward ports in the router for VNC.
Hope this helps. If you are really getting stuck I'll try and find a simple web tutorial for Remote Assistance for you.
Cheers

Freeware VNC is an alternative too. |
