Laptop DVD drive not working

My laptop is a few months old. Recently, the DVD drive stopped working. It ejects and lights up, but does not come up in My Computer, or the device manager. Theres no reaction when a disk is inserted. Oddly enough, it started to work fine last night, only to stop working again a few moments ago.

Whats going on, and how can I fix it? Thanks.

Sounds like maybe a bad connection inside the laptop. Removing the drive shouldn't be too difficult, you could examine the connection contacts for breaks, etc.


Is it an HP, out of curiousity? They seem to be famous for dying DVD drives.

It's a Toshiba. There a guide around for properly opening it? Id hate to break it in the process.

You'd have to check Toshiba's support site for that, I have no idea.

I managed to find pdfs for my HP, so you may luck out.

If it's that new, the best method to fix is to send it back. Is it still under warranty?
