NO SOUND NO MATTER WHAT!!!!?

ok heres the deal, my friends comp wont recognize any sound cards including on board sound, everytime we install a sound card driver it says that a device cannot be found, the most recent one i tried was a 5.1 soundblaster live, it recognized the card and installed the windows basic drivers for the card, but the installation cd will not recognize it, and when i got into properties it says the card is found and working properly but it says that the device has not been started yet. what on earth does that mean, i have never seen a sound card problem as hard as the one im facing, any information on this will be highly appreciated.

Might wanna' check out safe-mode.

Go in and obliterate any and all sound card references. Then start back up normally and let Windows find it, install the software that way. Worth a shot atleast.

Maybe try using a different PCI slot see if that helps if one is available it could be that....That pci slot is bad. Also you want to check in Bios is Onboard is disabled or not worth a shot
