Problem with Scanner

Hi, folks, can anyone help me with a problem I'm having with my scanner- A CanoScan FB620P - which has suddenly become invisible to my Win 2K system. It's been working well for six years but I have suddenly got a message "No Scanner Recognised - make sure your connection to the scanner is correct". When I bypass the scanner and go direct from Computer to Printer via my LPT1 port, the printer works well, but when I put the Scanner into the line in parallel, the Printer stops after only a few lines of printing. I have re-installed the scanner software three times today..........
Any help would be appreciated

Does the scanner work if plugged directly into the pc lpt1 port?

Dear Steve,
Thanks for your prompt response to my problem.
I tried a step by step approach to solving the problem.
Firstly I disconnected the Printer from the Scanner. The scanner still didn't work.
I tried a new cable and power supply to the scanner. It still didn't work.
I connected the printer direct to LPT1 and the printer worked, so there was nothing wrong with LPT1.
I reinstalled the scanner software, used the new cable direct to LPT1 coupled up the power and blow me down the scanner worked. (I must have scared it, I had a mug of Sulphuric Acid ready to pour onto it).
I coupled up the printer to the scanner again and that works too!
The only slight difficulty is that the scanner won't work if the printer is powered on, telling me that "Another Device is using LPT1"
I can live with this minor problem.
