| pc won't pick up new dvd drive
I bought a Pioneer DVR DVD burner from tigerdirect installed it and my pc won't recognize it. I tried the hardware wizard and it still won't show up under my computer.
My other cd drive isin't showing in my computer folder now either. How am I supposed to install any necessary drivers from disk when my pc won't pick up my new DVD drive and old CD drive?

There are jumper pins on the back of the drivers. Need to either set em to Master/Slave or both CS.

For Dells, you have to use cable select.
You should not need to install drivers for a CD drive. The drivers are generic to XP. But if both your drives have disappeared, I suspect something got messed up in the BIOS. |

Both drives on the same IDE cable are missing? Get your jumpers right. Either both on Cable Select with a cable that gets CS right - or one on Master, the other one on Slave. |

All I did was replace the old cdr drive and plug the IDE interface cable and the power cable into where the old one was.
Not sure how I set the "jumper pins on the back of the drives". And yes I have a Dell, what's "cable select", and how is that done?

Take a look at the back of the DVD drive...refer to this picture...you'll be looking for CS (Cable Select)...simply put the jumper over those pins. The letters read up to down, not left to right. http://www.mysuperpc.com/build/sony_..._master_cr.jpg
CS = Cable Select
SL = Slave
MA = Master

Sarah: If you are still having trouble, please post the model of your computer. |

This is so frustrating..Neither of the interface/power cables connect into that little port and I don't see any jumper cable lol. Does it matter which drive is on the top tier?
My computer is a Dell 2400 but I had it upgraded with a new motherboard and power supply last year. Why is this so hard to figure out don't these enginers know chicks like me can't do this stuff? I'm begining to think it was a mistake buying one!

Sarah:
Yes, it's very frustrating for us as well.
You should not be looking for a cable to plug into that location, nor is there such a thing as a "jumper cable" for computers.
The picture shows the little pin connector on the back of the drive known as a jumper. You must pull that little thing out with tweezers and replace it in the position shown as CS or CSEL. Perhaps this picture will show this more clearly.
You might want to refer to these instructions for adding/replacing a CD drive in a Dimension 2400. |
