Access Denied on User

Friends brought over old computer for me to do some updates (oh joy!).

I have their old drive in my external USB box. If I go under "Documents and Settings, Michaelle (or Ron or etc), I get "Documents and Settings\Michaelle is not accessible. Access denied".

She thinks she has some old photos on here...any way to access the subdirectory?

You need to take ownership of the folder. If she is using XP you can use the instructions in the following link.

Methinks she was using Windows 98...I don't have a security tab like the link mentions.

If you're on XP, make sure you have "Simple File Sharing" disabled in the Folder Options Control Panel... then you should see the security tab
are you using windows xp home? if so, you have to be in safe boot to see the tab.

you could instead use change the access control lists in the command prompt. read more about this option here:
