Hard Drive Problem?

I'm transitioning into an IT support position with my company. Currently working towards my A+ cert and have been troubleshooting one of our computers.

Computer began intermittently restarting itself about a month ago. Until yesterday the computer had been off for about 2 weeks. Finally had some time to take a look at it. Power comes on and one of two things happens: 1. hard drive spins up and goes through BIOS to XP screen and restarts or hard drive spins and clicks but no monitor. Thought maybe it was a cooling problem but all fans are working fine. Did some looking on the internet and find maybe it’s the hard drive. Removed hard drive and put in another computer. Now it boots to the screen to either start in safe mode or normally and when you choose either option, it freezes. Please help!!!

Does the second pc have Identical hardware so that the drivers on the XP drive match?

UPDATE...I was able to hook up what I thought to be the "bad" drive as a secondary to a working drive. I am able to access all of the information from that drive. How can I determine what the possible causes are as to why the other computer won't boot with that drive...bad MOBO, CPU, power supply???
