Serious Lag with CS:S and bots
well, recently i've gotten 8600GT OC and an opteron 2.4.
I just wanted to play counter strike source good with 80 FPS ...(80 constants)
the game requirements was
a 9.0 DX gcard (8600GT OC is 10DX)
2.4 processor (check! i got it)
additional info.. i got 1gig @ CL2 and 512 @ CL2.5
http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/5876/5876sp3.shtml
my original specs(without upgrades)
http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/FIC/.../105552mv.shtml
(my mobo)
Im not sure if this is even the right site to be asking this question it but.. thanks in advance, you guys sound like you know alot about nvidia/computer specs
i get like uber lag when i play with bots..
MAYBE i did something wrong? All i did was put in the processor and gcard, update the gcard.. thats pretty much it.. is there any other things i need to do?

The original cpu you had in there would have run CSS just fine, but anyways I doubt the power supply in that pc is enough to fully power that new card you have. So you'll likely need to upgrade that!
When you installed the new card did you uninstall the old integrated and install the newest drivers for the card?

Have you checked your CPU and GPU temperatures under full load? There are chances that the CPU heatsink is not correctly seated.
Download Everest if you don't have it and post back your temperatures while playing 3D games also look for your voltages specially the +12V.
All can be found under the sensor tab.

Artifacts like that are generally cause by one or more of the following, not in any particular order.
Temp
Drivers
Defective video card
Power"Opinions not based on knowledge are ugly things"

I'm sure that in nvidia's control panel there must be a temperature monitor.
Just leave it opened and play some 3D intensive games, once you start to see artifacts close the game and see the graphic drawed in the temperature monitor.
If it reaches the yellow (>80°C) or red (>100°C) zone then your video card is overheating, you will notice this because the graphic will show a yellow or red line. If it's on the green zone the temperatures are normal.
NOTE: Those temperature zones listed above are for an nvidia 7600GT, I don't know if the temperature zones for the 8600GT are the same.
Are you having random reboots, a message of "no signal" on your monitor or Blue Screens of Death (BSOD)???

uhhhh thats because bots in CS:S use mad cpu usage...
try fewer bots... less lag, right?
i figured this one out in a few min months ago. and when i OC'ed my cpu more, i could have more bots with good fps
dont listen to them and buy stuff for your pc because "its a heat problem" or "not enough power"
if they would create a game in cs:s with 32 bots, they would see a huge hit in fps too because of huge cpu usageLast edited by Lord_Infamous; July 15th, 2007 at 02:06 AM.

July 15th, 2007, 02:26 AM #14Now I'm completely lost what did you buy post the entire specs on the system you are trying to use, including the info off the side of the power supply.error, i got 3ghz.. and even in a game with like 30 ppl i lag
btw.. shud i use 7600 gs, 8500 gt or 8600 gt oc
Include everything that may possibly be relevant in your question:
Operating System
Processor
Video Card
Amount of RAM
Hard Drives
Other Drives
Internet Connection
Information is key make sure you list Manufactures and model numbers off all your parts: if you have a pre-built computer specify which make and model! You also need to make sure you are using the latest drivers for everything. Go to the nvidia site and get them if you haven't already http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

ok and?.. i have a dual core with 3.5ghz per core and i still lag with too many bots.
BOTS USE CPU USAGE AND THATS WHY U "LAG"
thats why your new pc still lags with bots. i don't care how many ghz ur cpu is, because too many bots will lag it.
there is no problem here

no but dfaster CPU means more bots without lag... what he has is a pentium D which is why it lags. dude, the 1.8Ghz core 2 duo owns your 3ghz pentium d or 4 or whatever

There is a vintage Diaclone Grimlock in the original box on eBay. Diaclone, as in before Transformers G1. Start is $429.
