Dell Laptop Inspiron 6000 wont charge

good morning all,

a friend brought me her laptop, a dell inspiron 6000. if i plug in the power supply to the back of the laptop, the power supply turns off and wont charge the laptop. I have tried other chargers thinking it might be the charger but they all do the same thing. Also, when i do plug in the charger to the laptop, i hear a small noise similar to a "short". the laptop does power up, but the battery is very low in charge. so i know the laptop is good.

any ideas of what can be causing this?

Have you tried with and without the battery present? If the battery is bad, it can prevent the system from getting power.

Although I'm generally familiar with Dell notebooks, I'm not too good with these power/battery issues, but I can look for ideas.

Odds are the connection to the mobo is broken which is a very common problem. Either have to find a skilled tech or replace the mobo.

Most defiantly the power connector in the laptop.

If you have another battery try it and see, but I doubt it's the battery. 'Sounds like a short'.

no i have tried other batteries..i think its the connection

Yep, same problem I had on a 4 year-old HP lappy.

Some engineer out there has to come up with a better power plug
