I recently purchased and installed a new HIS x1950 pro for my older AGP based system. After cleaning out the old drivers and installing the latest catalysts, my system would randomly lock up after windows had started. The desktop icons and my menus also appeared corrupted. After some looking around, I found that this a common problem with the AGP version of the card, so I went to revert to the 7.7 drivers.
As of right now my computer is running dandy and fine, except my system refuses to recognize any keyboard I attach to it unless I boot in safe mode. This is true of both ps/2 and usb devices. My mouse works fine.
The computer still does not start up consistently. Sometimes it won't get past post. Sometimes it blackscreens right before windows startup. Sometimes it won't even start in safe mode. Several resets later I am able to run apparently stable, but without a keyboard. I am befuddled.
For reference I am running an Athlon XP 3200+ with 2 gigs of RAM, and a 450 watt PSU. I'm inclined to think it is driver related, because the problems change with every version of the drivers I install. On the other hand I am frustrated and not thinking clearly.
Could any of you perhaps help me shed light on this situation?
