| Xbox Live won't connect via Verizon FIOS - and I'm not trying to go wireless.
Okay, this is my first time here in this forum, and I come to you all a desperate, distraught gamer.
My Xbox 360 REFUSES to maintain a decent connection with my Actiontec MI424WR router, despite being hardwired to it.
I tried setting up a static IP address and setting up port forwarding. No help.
I tried setting my Xbox 360's IP address to be my router's DMZ host. No help.
I tried activating my router's Universal Plug And Play option. That worked for a while, but died off as well.
Nothing else has any problems with my router, be it my computer, my DS Lite or my Nintendo Wii.
Actiontec couldn't help me, Verizon couldn't help me, Microsoft couldn't help me. I can't change my router because the rest of my Verizon FIOS services rely upon it. If anyone has ANY suggestions on what I can do to solve this problem, I will happily take ANY that I can get. Thanks everyone in advance. |

I have been having a similar problem for the past few months. The xbox diagnosis test comes with an MTU error every time, even though my MTU settings are well above the standard needed to run Live. I've called everyone with no luck; reconfigured my router 8 times.
Every now and then I'll turn on my Xbox, and sometimes an update prompt will appear. As soon as I download the 2 second update I'm able to connect to Live for a while. Then it fails to connect a few hours/days/weeks later and the process starts all over again.
The problem has to be fios, and the scary thing is that I don't think they're really aware of the problem, especially not enough to be making any headway into solving it. |

| EVERYONE THIS IS HOW YOU CONNECT WITH VERIZON FIOS (WIRELESSLY AND WIRED)
It took me forever with Xbox support and Verizon support. But I had to dig deep into the verizon website. This is the link. (Its a firmware upgrade for your router) It will not only update the wireless setting for Verizon provided routers, but also the configuration settings so that it can connect to Xbox Live. Has been working for me all night so far. Just follow the intructions in the PDF file http://netservices.verizon.net/porta...zon&case=16505
My name here is my gamertag, see you online

I had the same problem. I called Verizon and found someone who knew the issue. There is a fix. He downloaded the fix, rebooted everything and now it works fine. Call Verizon back and ask for the latest patches. | |

Tried following that link, but Verizon seems to have updated the site to be the worst web site in the history of the internet. Most of the links lead back to a main help page which is less than useless. |

Call and ask a live person, they have a horrible site but their people are very helpful and try hard to answer you question. They even admit their products suck most of the time. |

Been on the phone with Verizon now 5-6 times, X-box 4 times, and Actiontec(my router) once, and still failing at MTU. Gotten 15 different stories and a bunch of "If you do this, guaranteed..." Some of the things I've done include changing the MTU setting to EXACTLY 1364, changing firewall settings, setting up port forwarding, updating the router firmware, ect.
BTW, my favorite exchange with Verizon was when they told me that they couldn't help me because it was outside their jurisdiction to give support on an Actiontec router, I then called Actiontec, who told me that Verizon had agreed to provide support for their routers when supplied by them for ISP service. Someone isn't doing or doesn't even know what their job is, and my X-box live is still stuck in MTU failed........bah. |
