Assemble everything OUTSIDE the case first. Make sure it is working before assembling everything inside the case.

Well, the new processor worked. In fact, I figured out what originally went wrong.
So, after I got this new computer built, I did a repair installation of Windows so I could keep all my stuff. Of course, Windows is not too happy with it but I'm backing up everything now and going to reinstall. Anyway, while I was using the computer, it suddenly locked up and the monitor went dead.. Just like what happened in the first post of this topic I made.
I turned off the computer then back on. No signal. The computer stayed on. Again, just like before. I was about to panic, except this time something different happened; my motherboard gave POST beeps. Not bad ones either, the ones that meant it was OK. And that's when I realized what was wrong. I took the video connector from monitor out of my 7800GT and plugged into the onboard video, something I didn't have with my previous mobo. Voila. I got a picture.
My video card was the part that was failing.
Now I need recommendations for a new video card.

Anti Static bags conduct electricity. Dont place a motherboard with hooked up to a power source on them. Use Cardboard like a motherboard box. |

I apologize for bumping an old thread, but I figured you guys could could help me out.
So I just bought a new case/psu, mobo, processor and RAM.
Upon hooking everything up, plugging in and powering on, the case fan flashes blew, starts to spin, and within half a second everything is dead. Pressing the power button again results in nothing and if I pull the plug and put it back in, the fan again lights and spins for a split second and then nothing.
I troubleshooted with the old mobo and everything powered up fine so it's not the PSU.
My assumption is a bum processor but it could also be the mobo. I doubt it's the RAM.
I'm going to try trouble shooting the processor and the mobo later tonight, but any help is appreciated. |

Well, that was weird. I went over the thread again and got the idea to start up without any screws through the mobo and it started. Apparently screws are shorting my mobo. Every screw I have. Ouch. |

HI there.
You'd get a lot more responses if you just start your own thread. Most people aren't even going to get to the second page on this thread. |

My apologies. Didn't want to start a new thread for such a similar problem.
I found some screws that when used loosely would allow the system to boot. I'm so glad it's not a hardware problem. Now I just have to figure out why the USB are selectively recognizing (i can select f12 to get into boot order but then the keyboard won't work anymore)--edit--lol BIOS duh. enabled usb keyboard/mouse. Can't get it to boot from cd though
and i'm confused why windows started once on this HDD without me installing. I wish it would do it again though, now it's just error loading OS. Oh well, at least I'm running!
