My motherboard is an ASUS K8V SE Deluxe running Windows XP SP2. Just recently, every time I bootup it says "CPU Fan Error! Press F1 to continue" and it sounds like the fan is louder than usual. It boots and the computer seems to run fine after pressing F1. I get the error each time I start the computer, however. Anyone know how I could fix this problem? |

it could be a number of things... a dirty fan... dirty heatsink... the fan isn't working correctly...
have you taken off the cover to see what the heatsink looks like or what it seems to be doing... ?

When's the last time you dusted out your tower? That will kill your system quicker then anything else.(well, not counting liquids) ~.~
If you let the fans get to dusty, there is a chance that they'll quit working on you. Which can lead to overheating and eventually hardware failure.
So pop open the side of your case, and get some air in the can. See if that helps at all..
Also just look around inside your case, see if you can spot a fan not working. Or the one that is causing the louder noise. If you find it, try cleaning it also. If that doesn't work, then just replace it. Fans a uber cheap...
Hope I helped....

Actually, I recently took out the fan and cleaned it and put it back in. The fan seems to be spinning but I don't know what else I changed than making it cleaner. |

did you make sure to plug it in the correct "fan" plug on the motherboard... make sure it's plugged into the "cpu fan" ... also make sure it's running and doesn't randomly stop ... also... did you make sure to put it so it's sucking in and not blowing outwards... |

Go to the PC Health section in BIOS & see what fan speed is being reported for the CPU fan. If it's reporting zero, you might have connected it to the wrong fan header on the mobo. |

Do you have it connected to the CPU FAN pins on the motherboard?
EDIT:
JLK is faster.... |

There's more than one fan header connector near it? I just remembered where I unplugged it and just plugged in the area the way it would fit. If it's not the fan header I've connected it to, what else could it be for? I do see the fan spinning... I'll check to see what BIOS says. Be right back... |

more then likely you took it off the "cpu fan" plug.. and your bios and or motherboard sees that it doesn't have a fan connected and it's showing you that. Look up your Motherboard specs from a manual (online or one you might have) and find the right "fan" plug to plug it into... and i believe you will see the error go away.
the other fan headers are for any extra case fans... but your cpu has to be plugged into the "cpu fan" header for the bios and the motherboard to read it correctly. |
