| problems with steam or video card, not sure
recently i sent in a email to steam tech support on this problem, but they're taking too long, i relly wanna play my game, so im gonna show u guys what i sent to steam. it will explain my problem. WARNING!! RLY LONG EXPLANATION!!!
Hi, i recently installed team fortress 2 for the pc. mid installation , steam said to update something in my video card, cause something might not work otherwise, so i went to one of the recommended websites and downloaded what steam told me was my video card, or something like that. Near finishing the download of the video thing, it said i needed some NET framework thing for it to work, and wanted me to check to see if i had it, and click ok to assure i have it, but i was already eager to play the game , and i continued on without checking or anything.
after i was finished downloading the video thing, i continued installing team fortress classic 2, and i tried it out. The first time i tried to go on to a server, it started the little bar-loading thing, and about 3/4 to the end it was retrieving someting , then almost to the end it was sending my info or something, and then my computer restarted, and a few windows popped up at start up. I thought it was just bad timing of a restart on my computer because of an update, and exited out of the windows, not payying attention to them, but when i went to try again, my computer restarted again at the same spot of loading. when my comp booted back up agian, i looked at the windows, one was something about registering the video thing i downloaded. i thought that might be part of the reason so i registered it. near the finish of registering, it reminded mr again of the NET framework thing being needed to work, so i quick downloaded that off microsoft (found from google) and finished the registering. after it finished i went and tried to go on a server again. it restarted at the same spot. though, this time, when my comp started up again it had one similar window and one new one. the old one was a file, with a thing(link?) to the registration window for the video thing (just remembered its ATI, whatever that stands for). the new one was a window saying "Could not load file or assembly 'MOM.Implemation, Version2.0.2827(and more numbers and letters/words) or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified." the minimize bar on the (usually) bottom of the screen for the error screen has the video card (ATI) logo/symbol on it, so im guessing it's a file in there. after looking at all this stuff i exited out of it and started searching your website's support for help. i tried putting down the firewalls, as said by support, but that didnt work. then i tried a few tests found in support but they didnt do anything either. i thought maybe there were updates needed for the things i downloaded, so i checked for them. i got two for the NET framework thing, and the game itself updates automattically, though i dont think there were any updates for the video card. after trying all that, i got the same result, with the same 2 windows at startup. please, help me find out what's wrong with my computer. if you need anymore info on anything, please email me at my e-mail address(well actually it's kinda my mom's, and dont worry, she approves and knows about this, how do you think i downloaded team fortress 2 off steam for 30$?). if i dont dont get back right away, sorry bout that but i dont check it very often, i hardly get any e-mail. thank you for taking your time to read this really really long question, and please get back to me soon, I wanna play team fortress 2 so badly!
P.S. im not sure what crashes are, so if i presumed wrong sorry.
(update to email)
i recently reinstalled the video card thing (ATI) and it still didnt work out right. i got near the end of the setup, and it asked wether i wanted to repair or uninstall steam. i wanted to keep steam, so i clicked repair, and then next. partway through it it said there was some kind of error, and abborted repairing. Im not really sure whats goin on here, so please help me, ive had experience with steam in the past, but that was a while ago around the time the first half life game came out with team fortress classic. thanks again, please hurry, i wanna play asap!!!(dont rush though and mess up!!)
k, anyways, if u need more information please ask me, i rly wanna play tf2, as already mentioned. uhhh, ya, so plz help meeeeeee.

i sent in an update to steam recently, here it is
hi again, ive been determined to get this working. i reinstalled the video thing yet again, and its called ATI READEON XPRESS 200. i got the error messages and stuff that appeared at startup to dissapear, so thats good, but i still cant go onto a server, and my comp still restarts at the same spot. oh, one more thing, that repair or uninstall steam thing popped up again near the end of reinstalling the video thing. again i clicked repair, and again it screwed up 4 some reason, im starting to think my video card is too old for this game, not sure though. well, im gonna keep trying to figure out what's wrong and fix it, but please send an answer anyways. thx
still need help... |

Do other games work normally? Do you meet the game's minimum requirements?
That thing that pops up? Is it asking for the Net framework?
Post pictures, pictures!. Press print screen on your keyboard then go to paint, or other suitable program and paste. This will paste the screen shot. Post an image of what the heck that error is.
Try out dxdiag. Go to Start => Run and type dxdiag. Any errors?
I'm not too familiar with ATI stuff. I believe that catalyst has to be adjusted. You did uninstall the previous video driver from add/remove programs in the control panel before installing the new driver?
On your desktop you may have an Icon called My Computer. Right click it and chose properties. Press print screen and paste in paint. Upload the pic here too. Look for manage attachments under the text box when you post Reply.

sorry for taking so long to reply, i've done a bunch of things, but it still isnt working. i got a reply from steam finnaly, here it is.
When running a system with an integrated graphics controller, you will want to run the game in Directx 7, with shader detail set to low, in windowed mode in order for the game to function properly. For more information please see the following FAQ:
Title: Reset Video Settings and Force a Video Mode
URL: http://support.steampowered.com/cgi-bin/steampowered.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=242
*Note: The Orange Box games do not support anything below DirectX 8.1. If you can not run the game in DirectX 8.1 then your video card does not meet the minimum system requirements to run the game.
i looked at this stuff, and tried some of it, still having the same problems.
here is a list of more system info, hopefully it will help.

oh, few more things for keymaker. 1. other games do work, I've played world of warcraft and some other games like the first "half life", though i think they use different 3d engines. see, tf2 is kinda cartoonish looking if you havent seen it so... anyways 2. im pretty sure it meets the requirements. 3. yes, but that eventually went away as i mentioned, because i downloaded the netframework thing. 4. im gonna redownload just to get a screeshot, expect one on here soon, unless i get lazy and dont do it... but i probably will.

Okay, what game/s are you wanting to play?
What kind of computer is it?
Have you installed the latest drivers for the video card?
This computer doesn't have a video card? You are using an integrated graphics chip I guess. Have you tried using the settings indicated in that link above? This is windowed mode and running the game in dx7.
Go to the control panel, add/remove programs. Look for the Netframework. Which version is it?
You need to run dxdiag. Press the Windows key and then R. Now type Look in the bottom window for any errors.
So steam can't download any game? You havn't been able to download any game from steam at all? |

Heres a few things to try that may have been over looked:
Here is the .net framework 2.0 that is used by the ATI video drivers: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
The Ati drivers listed for media center and your integrated Xpress 200: http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_ca...integrated-mce
For TF2, you will also need a fairly recent update of directx 9: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
If you downloaded from steam only and didn't originally purchase the game from ebgames or elsewhere, then it will take several hours to download the orange box or if you just purchased tf2. Strangely enough with the way the game cache files are made and optimized, you can launch a game before its fully downloaded. However it will show you in the window if your steam game is ready to go 100%. Also you can right click and go to properties for each game in steam and ensure they are all set to autoupdate and verify the integrity of the game cache files there.
The repair feature of steam isn't going to help, unless you only had a specific problem with steam.
Anyhow, try going through and making sure you have everything I provided and installed correctly. If it isn't working too well beyond that, then we will think of other solutions from there.
Also if anyone is going to give you a video card, here is a link to determine if your computer has a slot for pci-e or agp to even support a video card. http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx...&ArticleID=383
