Windows install on new build

When installing Widows XP on a new build computer do I have to purchase the complete Windows XP in the box? and do I have to show proof of purchase of cpu, ram etc.?

I've done a couple of fresh installs of Win MCE 2005 SP2 OEM on my gamer - upgraded HDD's & had to reinstall. It's XP Pro with Media Center but it's cheaper than Pro. No, I didn't have to provide all that info to newegg.

I haven't ever had to buy an OS separately (I got 1 copy of XP Home with my desktop a few years back, and I got a copy of XP MCE & Vista Home Premium with my laptop last spring, and I got a copy of Vista Business for participating in a Microsoft event).

It should work without any problems. However, since it is OEM, if you ever need a new motherboard, or want to use it on a different PC instead of the one you bought it for you will probably need to use the phone activation (just tell them your motherboard died and you bought a new one if they ask why).

I did a phone activation yesterday because I upgraded my backup rig. The whole process is automated now, you speak to a machine. M$ found a way to lay-off a bunch of Indians.

Yes to the motherboard died question just seemed like the right way to go. lol
