HELP!..mystery problem!

Hi there...new to these boards, i'm so desperate to resolve this problem as i'm getting pc withdrawl symptoms and having to make do with a horrible lap top!
Ok pc...(a bit crap but it does me for things i want,ie FM2006)
M/B Gigabyte GA-7VRXP
Processor is a AMD XP-Athlon 2400(Which is a 1600ghz)
Ram DDR 750Mb(one stick 500-one stick 250)
G/Board which i have just bought brand new is a Gforce 6200XFX 256mb DDR2 AGP 8X
Brand new 500 watt power suply(just bought)
2 H/D One 80gig the other 60gig
1 CDRW etc etc
1 DVD Rom
Ok apart from the new parts listed that i thought would sort out the problem it has not.
Here is the story i was on pc running fine...built it 3 years ago been very reliable, i was playing a game and altering graphics display, then all of a sudden monitor whent off on to standby....the monitor just displayed "no signal go to power save"
On comes the orange light which was flashing.
Tried monitor on another pc it works fine, then went out and bought new Graphics card, power supply, then the light on monitor stoped flashing orange and went to a constant orange still saying no display sigal go to power save then switches back to orange light again.
The light on the front of my pc which is i think the HD light is constantly on red, i have a CDRW with a constant green light on, neither of the trays on the drives open or do anything..where as before i installed new stuff they at least worked if no display.

I have tried alot of stuff and i'm completely baffled and realy desperate to get off this bloody laptop and back on my pc!
Please please help anyone!!!
Thanks for reading....Striker(sorry about spelling)

I would carefully inspect the capacitors on the board looking for bulged or leaking ones.

Then reset the CMOS with the computer disconnected from the wall.

When you "altered the graphics display" were you adjusting resolution or over clocking?

The only idea I have left is to remove and re seat the video card and recheck the connections.

Have you looked in device manager for yellow warning arrows? If it is present there, you can uninstall it, re start and see if it comes back to life...

have you tried hooking up your pc to a monitor that will work so that you can get into device manager and reset the graphics card to default? This way you can start a fresh with tweaking your graphics card where you want it.

I am thinking because you stated you were "altering graphics display" that you put it to a refresh rate that is not compatible with your computer. Did you uncheck a box that says in "hide monitor modes that computer can not display" or something like that. I think you checked something and set it too something that is not good for yoru computer and somehow you are going to have to default the settings so you can start over with the card.

Also make sure the slot the graphics card sits in is not dirty with dustbunnies.

Edit: Also did you try and use your former graphics card in machine and see if you can get signal to computer this way you can wipe out all drivers and then powerdown and start fresh with graphics card.

okay, have you taken the problemed graphics card out and swaped it with a new old one, (known good graphics card with no problems) install new drivers?

you already said monitor works on another computer so that is good. rules out the monitor itself.

Edit: Need to get into computer so that you can wipe out all drivers from that machine so to start over from scratch with the graphics card you want to use.

The old graphics card stoped working the fan stoped on it originaly, when i tried it on my daughters machine it would not work.
So that was what i thought the original problem was, so i went out and bought a new one, then taken that back and swaped it as i thought i had been sold a new dudd one, so now i have a second brand new one that does work on another machine.

Sorry i'm sounding way to confusing here, all i knw is that i get a black screen no display,go to power save and all that, so i can't get on to any O/S,, and my HD light is on red all the time
