New PC Build, No Screen Display!
Hi there, I'm new here. I've just built a new pc which took some considerable amount of time for someone like me.
But anyway, I connected everything up and it looks to be all connected correctly and when I go to turn it on the monitor display stays blank and the power LED on it stays orange.
I ran the PC with the side of the case off and I could see the heatsink/fan is spinning fine, the graphics card's fan is spinning fine and the optical drive seems to have power and a green led light. I also plugged in a device which is USB to see if it would run power through it (it's like a pc to tv adapater) and it lit so I am presuming the motherboard's usb connections are working too.
Below is a list of the pc parts I ordered to build the pc:
Corsair VX 550W PSU
Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 Socket 775 2.4GHz (800MHz) L2 2MB Cache Retail Boxed Processor
Foxconn P4M9007MB-8RS2H Socket 775 P4M900 onboard VGA DDR2 mATX
Corsair 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 675MHz/PC2-5400 XMS Memory
NEC Optiarc AD-7170S-0S 18x DVD±RW/DL/RAM Serial ATA Silver
ASUS 2600 PRO 256MB DDR2 Dual DVI HDCP HDTV out PCI-E Graphics Card
Belkin F5D7000 Wireless PCI Adapter
XPRO Silver Internal 3.5" 17-in-1 Card Reader
ST3200827AS 200GB Serial ATA HDD
PS: This might be irrelevant to the problem but my mobo is mounted to the case but has two of the mount screws missing. However, it does look securely held up.

First thing to try would be to take the video card out and connect the monitor to the onboard graphics.

When I took that out and turned the power on the system (fans, power, etc) ran for about 5 seconds and then everything stopped.

Ok, disconnect everything extra, the PCI cards/optical drives/hard drives, then see if it goes.

I'll throw in a couple of suggestions also..
First off, the best thing to do IMO, especially on a new build, is to do a bench test, just to make sure everything is working properly.
Take everything out of your case, and hook up the bare essentials.Of course have the motherboard on a non conductive surface while testing. See if it powers up and you get a screen. If so, it's probably a grounding out issue.
With it shutting off within 5 seconds, that really makes me think it's a heat issue. Did you use thermal paste? To me it sounds like your CPU is overheating.
Another thing to try is just reset everything to the motherboard. Maybe your ram or something similar didn't get properly inserted. Check that.
Good luck...
And Welcome to TIMO!!
