Computer restarts at Windows Loading Screen

Please help me
I was playing Counter Strike Source the other day and it told me to install a video drive update on my ATI Radeon 9700 since it was out of date. I went to the website and downloaded the Cataylst update. I installed the video drive update and I think it pasted and possibly replaced some of my files to my windows 32 system during the installation =/
Next morning when I switched on my computer it loaded up to the windows load menu, then it switched to a black screen briefly before automatically restarting the computer. The 2nd time around it gave me a few options ,
Safe Mode /Load to last known *good* configurations/ Start Windows normally etc.
The last 2 options didn't work as it kept on restarting once it had got to the windows load menu.
The only choice I have is to go into Safe Mode and do system restore and this is the only way that allows me to get onto my desktop successfully If I switch off the computer and start it up again the same problem happens with the restarting at the windows load menu! ..unless I do system restore ..
PLEASE HELP! Ive got all my AS coursework saved on this computer and I don't want to lose what Ive worked for all this time.
Is there any way to fix this without being too complicated

Thanks in advance -

Talking

Whats the model/type of computer you have, and whats your Operating System? (Windows XP/Vista/etc?)

Do you have a Windows disk (can also be considered a "Recovery Disk" if your computer is a prebuilt model like Dell, HP, etc.)?

You can perhaps do a repair install on your hard drive. Repair installs on Windows installations don't delete anything, they just fix up whatever's corrupt/missing in your system folders, keeping your valuable documents, settings, programs, etc. intact. I do it whenever one of my system files go awry making my system not boot properly. Works like a charm, and all my documents and such are still there.

Well Seems like a major driver issue...The new update driver didnt work very well with your card it seems Not sure what the actual reason is but safe to say thats in fault because when you did update thats when all the problems started. Two things you can do.

First thing is to go into safe mode and completely uninstall the video driver for that card. Then Start up windows it will have the generic driver for the time being so bare with it. Download the latest driver from Ati and see how that goes if you still have the same issues then Follow next step.

Second step if first fails. Go back into safe mode uninstall driver restart comp and then download the driver before the latest one. or if you have the CD to your graphic card use that. Hopefully at that point things should be fine. because you didnt do anything else since that happened all you did was to update to the lastest catalyst driver. Good luck
