dell inspiron 700m

Hello all. My name is steven and i am in need of some help. I have in my possesion a "broken" dell inspoiron 700m. It belonged to my teacher and his dog knocked over a cup of tea into the laptop and he says it left residue on the motherboard. I heard that i can use alcohol and a q tip of some sort and try and find that residue and clean it in which it should start working. is that correct? if so on the motherboard, the majority of it is covered with a black sticker but all it does is just cover everything. I was wondering if i can take that off and use the alchohol and q tip on the covered parts of the mother board. And if possible, can someone post up some kind of blueprint of the inspiron 700m? it would be great if possible but if not then it's ok. Thanks alot

dell inspiron 700m new problem

hi again. i seemed to have fixed the motherboard but i am not so sure. my teacher said it was a short that made it turn on but then also turn off. After hours and tinkering and dabbing with alchohol i managed to get it up and running. but as it loads up it now says

Broadcom UNDI, PXE-2.1(build 082) v2.0.4

Intel Base-Code, PXE-2.1 (build 082j)

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM
No bootable devices -- Press F1 to continue or f2 to reboot

if i press f1 the same thing comes up again. and if i press f2 it reboots and then does the same thing again. i am not sure if this is at the fault of the motherboard or anything because if the short was still there it would have turned off by now correct? he did give me his laptop with a missing part. it seems like it is the cd drive. i dont know if that would affect anything or not. thanks.

[edit] ohh yea and sometimes when i turn it on it says that it is missing the primary harddrive. or it can't be found.

Did you take it apart and clean it?
Did you let it completely dry out before turning it on?

yea i did all of that and it works fine. i kidna found out today that my teacher wiped teh harddrive so i will be needing the xp cd or dell cd of some sort. and with that i need the cd drive. and i found out why the primary harddrive some times was missing it was because i dind't screw in this blue plastic bar that kept the prongs in place. dind't know what it was for since i got it all pretty much disassembled. and i found out so now it stays in place. thanks for your help.
