Hi there.
Did you get a recovery disk with it?
IF so, use that. But you will lose any saved data doing that.

You can purchase an OS disk such as these. Assuming your boot sequence is set up where your CD/DVD drive is read before your HD you ought to just be able to pop it in and follow the steps.
If you don't even want an OS, which I doubt, you can just format your HD with DOS or get a third party software such as Boot and Nuke and wipe your HD clean.

I have exactly the same laptop and I got some recovery disks sent to me because I didn't get them at the right time. Have you had any problems with your laptop connecting to the internet? Because I don't know whether it is just my laptop or all laptops of this make. Instead of just turning it on and it being connected like it was when I first got it I now have to go through the whole process of connecting it all over again everytime I turn it on. Is there any way I can reset my laptop and start all over again?
I hope I have helped with the question, just get in touch with who you bought it off or go to the HP website and they will send you some recovery disks in the post. It comes with instructions so you will know what to do. It takes a while so I wouldnt do it if you need the laptop soon.

Goto Start and then Programs. Look for HP Recovery Manager. Follow the menu prompts. You can make ONE set of recovery disks. You should also have a recovery partition on your hardrive that will restore your computer to its original settings.

Hi, Atwown:
Welcome to TechIMO.
Did you already try the recovery disc? When you say "disk drive", are you talking about a CD/DVD drive or your hard drive. Running the recovery disc will not fix a bad hard drive.

From what your describing, that would be a BIOS password. The only way to reset that is to remove the CMOS battery from the motherboard, and replacing after a short period of time. There is no way to crack the BIOS password that I'm aware of.

I know you can call Dell, prove you own the laptop (no such thing as a labtop, btw) & they can reset the BIOS password. I'm guessing HP has a similar procedure.
This sounds like you are looking for the Windows password though. Try your usual user name & no password if you didn't have one. If your user is Administrator, make sure it is spelled right. What computer do you have? And please don't say a white one. - Sheldon Cooper
