| Computer starts up when it wants to...
Hey again,
Same PC as in the last thread, different problem. Should I put all these in one thread or do it this way?
After shutting down, restarting, or just plain turning off my PC it will not start up on the first few tries. There are no error messages, no beeps, nothing. Once it gets through the startup diagnostic it just hangs on a black screen. It did it right after checking the floppy drive for a boot disk so I disconnected the drive but that didn't change anything. I thought at first it might have been a heat problem so I tried turning off the PC for a few minutes to let it cool off but that doesn't help. I Just have to keep hitting ctrl-alt-del until it decides to start Windows.
Any ideas? |

It may be a power supply problem. Do you have another you could try?

Yes I have 6 or 7. I always assume the problem is initially power supply. I'll try it out in a sec I'm using the nifty EVEREST program mentioned in the sticky. |

I haven't swapped the power supply. Suddenly it just works fine. I ran check disk and disk cleanup, no errors were found but suddenly my PC works like... well like an HP manufactured in 2002. |

| Booting only when it wants to...
Lately my Toshiba (piece o crap) Satellite will only start when it wants... I tried pulling the battery and running only on a power supply and that has helped but it is still a bit tempermental. Sometimes I have to boot it 2-6 times for it to finally completely restart. When it doesnt boot it starts power and then just stays on a black screen. So far in the last 3 months they replaced the screen connection (??? it was going white on me & I was later told they should have replaced the whole thing at that point ???) then the hard drive 2 months later... and now here I am 1 month after having a new hard drive installed... any suggestions before I go slap down some more cash... this laptop is only a year old!?!?!
Thanks! |
