| Boot issues driving me absolutely CRAZY!! Help please
Ok here goes. I have a micro atx case. With a MSI g33m board, 2 gigs ram, HD 3870, 1 74 gig raptor, and a Antec True Power 500 watt psu.
Ok here is the thing whenever I move my case I have to reset the cmos BEFORE it will EVER boot again. Then sometimes it will power up then power down then power up then power down, before it boots into the bios.
Then I have the problem with my raptor hard drive where sometimes its detected and will boot fine and then other times it will throw NTDLR restart or BootMGR cant be find type stuff, usually if I power everything down then on it will show up and boot into windows fine.
Now Im thinkin the boot issues may be motherboard related which I hope not because I dont feel like RMA process ( knew I should have gone with asus or gigabyte instead of this crappy MSI ).
Or it could be my PSU not given enough juice to the correct parts.
I may add that when I do finally get booted the bios takes forever to get past it, the dang thing keeps wanting to boot from my MYBOOK even when I turn off support other boot options.
This is really getting annoying maybe I should take the week away from my gaming rig and RMA almost everything, and see what happens.
Please help me out here im goin nuts.

couple of ideas:
make sure their's no loose hardware connections
to cancel out if is a PSU issue just disconnect some power cables
maybe flash the bios if has available update
Give the harddrive a scan for errors.

Yeah I did try the bios thing. I will unhook some of the power connections and see what that produces. I did go to the extreme power calculator and they told me i need something bigger than a 650 basically to run my current rig.

It sounds most likely to be a PSU <-> Motherboard issue. It may be the PSU is underpowered or faulty. You can try disconnecting power cables, though that may not eliminate the PSU being underpowered since you may not be alleviating rail that is causing the issue. If a quality PSU swap doesn't resolve it may be something wrong with the mobo (though I sometimes prefer two PSU swaps before I rule such a resolution out).

If the BIOS dosen't hold it might be the battery

I agree with SiliconJon that it could be a Power Supply issue |

The battery to the motherboard i already changed to a brand new one. no good. im gonna see if i cant get my hands on another psu to test it out. But I did all the above and nothin changed so far. Im still havin the NTLDR missing problem, but I ran a chk disk on the drive and it didnt report any errors. But I kinda know the drive is faulty because no matter what rig I have it in it boots when it wants to. but that could also be PSU because I have had this same PSU for a long time now.
I will see what happens, im pretty sure a 500 watt psu should power my system fine. |

have you tried taking the motherboard out and setting it up out of the case, it may be grounding on something, |

hmmmm I did not but I will now. Just to rule it out. I already have the RMA slip filed and ready, just in case. The raptor is goin back also.
Do it for customers but totally slipped my minds for myself, now thats realy noobish.
