| Using my American laptop onverseas.
I'm planning a trip to England in late Febuary. I understand that Europe uses different power than the US? What would I need to plug my laptop in so I can charge my battery?
I've got the AC adapter that came with it, but I'm gonna guess that won't work over there. |

get a converter from Radio Shack ... most knowledgable salesmen in store should be able to advise you which one might be best suited.
Warning, they are typically not cheap so dont lose it or forget it in the hotel! |

When I went to Ireland I picked up a 45w adapter (which wouldn't be enough for most laptops) for about $15 USD.
Unless you know what kind of socket will be available (I don't know what they use in England, so I can't help you), you will probably have to wait until you go over there. I'd expect to spend around $30 USD for an adapter that is powerful enough for a laptop (make sure to check the wattage your adapter uses before you look for a converter). |

Just a thought, are you traveling for business or pleasure? |

Most laptop power supplies will be rated for 100-240V at 50-60Hz. If that is the case with yours all you need is a simple plug format pass through which are cheap and not too hard to find. No power conversion would be neccessary. Anything else might need a full blown power conversion device. |

If you need anything such as a converter or adapter plug get it before going to the UK...it's going to be at least triple the price from the U.S..
Radio Shack, or any electronic store would be your best bet, and they will be able to help you out for the correct plug, or check out this link for suggestions: http://www.dcacpowerinverters.com/plug_adapters.html |

So, my laptop is an ECS 536. Think the adapter is a 90w job. If I gather from what bombledmonk said, I only should need one of the little plug thingies like I linked to above?
Only other thing I MAY bring would be my PDA, but it is obviously way lower power consumption. |
