Friend's computer won't boot.

Alright hey guys,

So my friend calls me up today telling me his dad is getting rid of his old comp cuz he bought a laptop, and to take whatever he wants.

All that was useful was the gfx card, ram, and hardrive.

So I swppaed gfx cards, put the hardrive in as a slave, and added an extra 512 of ram.

When I go to turn it on...everything turns on...buttt no POST, no beep no nothing.

It's all being powered and I made sure the PSU was high powered enough for all of it.

I tried booting it with the basics, and got the same results.

So the question is, why is it doing this, and how can I fix it.

Thanks!

Wes

Check to make sure all power connections are made to the motherboard. Failing that, remove the motherboard from the case and try booting it then. It could be shorting out somewhere on the case. Check for misplaced standoffs.

Did you check to make sure that the RAM you got is compatible?
Have you tried unplugging everything but one HD and booting gradually adding one device at a time to see if there is something causing a problem?
Have you tested the new GFX card to ensure that it is working properly prior to installing? Does it require an additional rail of power?

Have you tried removing ALL of the new items and trying to see if it boots? Did you add everything at once or did you add one item at a time to make sure that it wasnt one specific thing causing the problem?

I checked everything, all the ram is DDR 2700, i tried one hardrives, both hardrives, one cd, two cd's, gfx card, no gfx card, old gfx card, etc, etc.

Still nothing.

i won't be going back over til this weekend since my schedule is full, but I'll try taking the motherboard out to see if it's short circuiting.

Alright so I`m at my friends house, I took everything out of the computers, both motherboards etc.

I layed themn out on a table and connected both of them to the two psu`s.

I tried booting BOTH of them of, with their old hardware, tried connecting two different monitors, tried connecting graphics cards here and there, ram here, hardrive there, the bare minimums, maximums, and I still get nothing.

Whaattt is going onnnn?
