How do I manually uninstall old video drivers

My nephew is having problems with his computer and needs to update his video drivers. He has an ATI Radeon 9200 with (very old) Catalyst 3.2 drivers and ATI Control Panel (not Catalyst Control Panel).

Before installing new drivers we have to uninstall the old ones.

Normally this would be pretty painless but there are no ATI entries in ADD/'REMOVE PROGRAMS. There are no ATI entries on the start menu either but both drivers and ATI Control Panel are installed and working.

Can anyone point me to an uninstalling utility or detail what steps I should take to manually uninstall the old drivers and control panel.

    Thanks

You can use Driver Cleaner to uninstall the drivers.

Have you tried installing the new drives yet? If I remember correctly, with my old ATI video card when you installed the new drivers it would automatically uninstall all old drivers/control panels.

Thanks, I'll try it. I managed to find an old ATI uninstall utility on their website so will try it first.

No I haven't. The ATI website says to uninstall the old ones first. I have 4 computers with ATI cards and that's what I've always done. I have no idea if it automatically uninstalls the old ones first. I would have thought that if they did there would be no reason to have the ATI uninstall utility.

Anyone know if new drivers remove the old ones?

    cheers

you're better to remove the old drivers - run driver cleaner - install new drivers.

installing new over old can give rise to rproblems - in my case the crysis demo would not display properly when i installed new over old.
