    DVD burner won't burn DVD but burns CDs

    I have a Sony DRU-500 DVD +/- RW. It has the most up to date firmware(2.1a). It stopping being able to write DVD in both video and data format. I tried different file types, and different discs. It just gets an error when I try to burn.
    CDs will burn perfectly though.
    Is there a way to fix this or is the DVD part broken?

    See if this helps :
    1. Go to Start, Run
    2. Type in: regedit then click OK
    3. Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    4. Look in right pane and find the Upper Filter and Lower Filter entries.
    5. Right click on each and select Delete.
    6. Close regedit and reboot

    Have you tried to reinstall Nero? Reinstall, and let us know what happens.

    An easy way to remove the filters is to use the Guided Help here:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/EN-US/

    Make sure the drive is running in DMA, not PIO mode. This can be found in IDE channel properties.

    I did that and then rebooted, now my Roxio says it does not detect my driver.
    What should I do.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi, il.dallas,

    After removing the upper and lower filters, you need to reinstall Roxio. Read the MS article where it tells you that you may need to reinstall programs like iTunes and Roxio Creator software.
