| My computer has gone crazy!!!
I've had this computer since April 2005 and it has served me well.
A few weeks ago, it started to shut itself down without prompt. In addition to this, it also freezes sometimes.
I looked in the event logs for the times around these incidents but there are no errors or warnings. (one warning: Cannot find notebook-a computer in my workgroup)
I tried uninstalling new programs and System restore to a point before the problems started but that hasn't helped.
I also tried the Windows Memory Diagnostic but it found no errors in the first few passes.
However, the computer does shut itself down when it gets to pass 3 or 4.
What say you? |

Try having a go with Memtest86+. They have versions for bootable floppies, CDs and USB sticks.

I often find that is a symptom of the heatsink on the CPU being clogged with years of accumulated dust. A new 1/2 inch paintbrush can work wonders if you remove the fan. Usually four screws hold it to the heatsink. If it is dusty, then your power supply ventilation slots will usually be in the same state. Remember to unplug the system from the mains before any cleaning is performed.
If the memory is fine and your system is not overheating, then a format and reinstall of windows may be helpful as a drastic solution, especially if your installation has been running for the past three years.

Try swapping memory from another computer or try running it one memory module at a time.
Could be the memory or maybe hard drive going bad?
Any new hardware installed recently?
What are the specs on your pc?
Power supply
memory
cpu etc..

I has a similar problem. I was with the computer back to the shop but finally they have discovered it was a virus.Have you scanned with antivirus? I use Kaspersky now http://www.freedownloadsplace.com/Do...Free-15914.htm and is doing good scan.
Is good to save all important information on a separate HDD because is possible to crash all the system and after you will reinstall Win will lose all information from the partition were was installed. Hope this helps. |
