| Mouse not being recognised after actually "lighting up"
Hello, I'm new to these forums but I have somewhat of a problem and I found that this'd probably be the place to get an answer! The problem is as follows:
I've had my razer diamondback for 3 years now, and the connector isn't what it used to be, but it works, with a little tweaking of the cable's position. Anyway, this morning when I booted my computer up it went blue like always, and then just died, which happens. At those times I just fiddle around with the cable until the lights come back on, and no problem there. However, this time I got a warning message from Windows (Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2) saying something along the lines of that my USB device cannot be recognised because it is malfunctioning. Odd I thought and first changed the usb port, then plugged it in into my computer taking all other usb cables out first, but that didn't help either.
Then I plugged it into my eMac, and after a bit of tweaking with the cable position again it worked like a charm!
So I'm wondering, is there any way to circumvent Windows shutting the usb port/mouse off, or is there a totally different problem that I haven't taken into account and I quite simply have to buy a new mouse?
Thanks in advance,
Scandii |

Welcome to TechIMO
Sure sounds like it's time to get a new mouse. Think about how nice it would be just to press the power button on the pc and off you go

thanks for your reply but I'm trying to find a way around buying a new mouse since I know it works thanks to the experiment with my eMac. |

but it works, with a little tweaking of the cable's position
| This is an indication that the micro thin wires in the cable are broken. Tweaking the cable is probably joining/making a connection of the broken ends. So "tweaking" till it works is probably your only other option. |

yes, I've managed with that, but once it's got a connection Windows itself turns it off, and that's my problem! |

At best, your cable "tweaking" is creating an interrmitent connection, regardless of machines.
Spend the money and buy a new mouse!!!! |

Scandii, sounds like you have a real attachment to your mouse, but your computer doesn't. I've been there myself. I had a Microsoft Sidewinder game controller that I loved. Had it since Windows 98 and through several computer upgrades, but it finally failed and despite all the tweaks I tried, it went to hardware heaven. I bought a Saitek USB controller on the recommendation of my game playing son. I didn't quite warm to it right away, but it eventually grew on me. It has a lot of features that my old Sidewinder did not have. Unless money is an issue, it might be time to let it go.
