I'm hoping to get a new CPU sometime soon and I'm looking to get the Intel Q6600. Unfortunately I think this means I need a new PSU aswell since the one I have is barely coping with my P4 at the moment. I figure that if I'm going to lay down a lot of money for a power supply, I might as well get one that is futureproof. Does 1kW seem a bit excessive?
The big problem is that the power supply market is really confusing. I've read JPMiller's stickied 'power supply info' thread and 'Hi-Power' are on his list of 'Good' manufacturers but they don't seem to have a website, at least not one that I can find. I also can't find anything more on this ( http://www.ebuyer.com/product/135194) product of theirs, and it also has no reviews on ebuyer so I am unsure of it's reliability. The relatively low price also arouses my suspicion but, with my limited understanding of this subject, it all seems to check out.
I just wondered if someone with more experience in the field of power supplies could take a look at that for me, it would be much appreciated. I also can't work out the airflow... does the fan suck air into the PSU and hence move it out of the back panel? It seems inefficient... |

I like FSP Group myself.
What graphics card are you getting (or have)? |

I currently have a 512MB 7900GT. I'm hoping to upgrade to a DX10 card soon though, possibly even SLI if I can find the money It's upsetting though: I bought the card just over a year ago without much thought and it cost me £250 :/ I could get an 8800GTX for that now... |

A thousand watt psu is a little excessive in my opinion, unless your running like four hard drives and plan on going sli or quad sli.
FSP,Silverstone,Pc power&cooling,OCZ are some of the best psu's on the market today. The one you have linked looks pretty decent. Just keep in mind your looking for something with a good amount of amps on the 12v rails and with a good efficiency rating. With the way GPU's are today i would stay away from anything with lower than 18 amps on the 12v rails, and look for an efficiency rating of 80% or higher.

It's rated at max. 20A on each of the four 12V rails, not sure how reliable that data is though... |

Well, you have to look at the total wattage output for the 12v rails to. Just because it says it can push 20amps on each of the single rail, doesn't mean they can all be maxed out at the same time.
I myself would check into Gigabytes new offerings. They are some pretty sweet units for the price, and offer features that no other PSU's have.
Also, they make PSU's that have one single rail, that pushes like 60-70amps. Those are the units I'd look into for a high powered system. They are very efficient also.
Corsairs, Tagans, PP&C, and some others offer these PSU's.
Just my two pennies though.. |

The specs look pretty decent. I cant seem to find to much info about that model, or the company itself. |

I'd also go for a Gigabyte or a FSP model. |

OCZ makes some nice PSU's. I currently run a 600watt OCZ PSU and it's ran great for over a year now. I have no complaints at all.. |
