| Prob: Win XP wont boot after upgrade
I've been struggling with this upgrade for a couple of weeks. The first problems were hardware. Now, after getting the hardware issues straightened out, I can't boot into my original installed Windows XP installation from the pre-upgraded C drive.
On previous upgrades, on first boot, Windows would find the new hardware without problem (well, maybe it would miss one or two devices but at least boot into Windows so that I could manually load drivers.) This time, when loading I get a BSOD for 1/10 of a second and then the system reboots. I'm using my corporate licensed XP that doesn't limit hardware changes.
The old mobo chip set was a AMD 939 and the new one is an Intel 775. My guess is that the installed Windows doesn't have the basic drivers to boot.
I seem to remember a "Repair" option when booting from the Orig Win XP disk that would repair a current installation. That was located after hitting ENTER, then there was another "R" for repair. However, I only see "press R to repair using the Recovery Console" which just gives a command line interface. If one presses ENTER instead of "R" the options are only replace the current Windows folder (e.g. blow out current installation) or create a second one. Either way, I have to reinstall all apps.
In the Recovery Console it shows D:\WINDOWS
