| PCI e slot in a Gateway GT5228 not detecting VC
HI everyone!
Got this problem with my PCIe slot in a Gateway GT5228 specs bellow
PC ManufacturerGatewayModelGT5228Motherboard ManufacturerFirst International Computer, Inc.ProductK2BC51G/PVProcessorAMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+Versionx86 Family 15 Model 75 Stepping 2Data Width32bitsL2 Cache Size512KbApproximate Clock Speed2,210MhzProcessorAMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+Versionx86 Family 15 Model 75 Stepping 2Data Width32bitsL2 Cache Size512Kb
It has an onboard NVidia GE Force 6100 which has 512mb RAM.
Now here's the problem after a year of normal usage of a PCIe VC ATI visiontek X1300 512mb DDR at Gateway GT5228, my monitor suddenly received no signal and just totaly blank though the CPU is workng just fine. So i reverted back to the onboard VC and is what im using now. I thought then initialy that the VC was the problem so I sent it back to the manufacturer and they gave me a new one (my VC has a limited lifetime warranty). But then when I installed it, it cant be detected, though VC's fan seems to be working just fine. I tested the VC to other PC's and its just working fine.
Ive already tried hard reset, taking off the MOBO battery which was suggested by Gateway but that didnt also solve the problem.
Any suggestion will be highly appreciated. |

Oh I read similar problem from other owner with the same specs and they thought then that the problem was the power supply and so someone opted to change his Power supply but that also didnt seems to solve the problem. |

Maybe its your PCI E slot.
Though It sure does sound like the power supply to me as well. I was running an AGP 9600 XT Pro with an HP, and it worked for awhile on a 200 watt Power supply. It quit working but the fan was spinning and I found out I needed a system bios update and a 300 watt psu. Still wouldn't work even with a Nvidia 5500 FX AGP , I thought my agp slot was fried and resorted to PCI, until I used compressed air to clean out my agp slot.
So maybe you could try putting in a different video card in your gateway and see if the different card works? |

My PCI-e slot suddenly died in my Gateway as well (GT5232E, FIC nVidia mobo, GeForce 7300 LE). One day, I woke it from standby and the monitor never came back on. I've had it for 1 year + 4 days. Never overclocked it.
At first I assumed it was the video card, but a new card (plus a new 500W PS) didn't work either. When I run Sandra and try to get info on the PCI-e bus, it just returns an error. Currently using an old PCI video card, and looking for a new mobo |

| GT5228PCI EXP Slot Disappears
Wow guys, I too had the same thing happen, within a month after the 1 year warranty ran out. Tried the same fixes as below. It was nice to have some time off over the holidays as this was very time consuming and exasperating. It was finally an old PCI video card that saved the day. I think I will correspond with Gateway and see what they have to say about us all sharing the same issue just months after the warranty expires. Will let you know what kind of response I get. Meanwhile, anyone else who wants to be counted, please add your voice. |

Or how about all of you with this common problem start a new thread instead of hijacking someone elses thread trying to SOLVE a problem rather than voice one...
add in the fact that the thread dates from April of last year...
good luck on contacting Gateway, as they are now under new ownership under Acer... don't know how well they'll stand by their products since their now out of warranty?
