| CPU and Crossfire Question
Hey everyone. Quick couple of Questions and your opinions.
This is my Rig
AMD 6000+ 3.2ghz dual core
2gb cosair 800mhz ddr2 ram
9800gtx 512mb gpu
GIGABYTE S-Series MA790X-DS4 mobo with crossfire.
500gb hdd
Vista ultimate 32bit
I do alot of Gaming, using crysis as my benchmark. Just wondering if I should upgrade my cpu from the 6000+ to an amd phenom FX chip set and if it is worth it. Also my mobo supports crossfire but i dont use ATI. is it possible to use the ATI crossfire support to use SLI instead? is there a way around this?
All help is greatly apprieated! thanks guys. |

nope, the chipset on your board will be built for crossfire. You cannot do SLI on a crossfire board and vice versa. Besides, your graphics card is pretty much one of the best out there at the moment. When it starts to lag behind in games just upgrade to the best then, no need to waste money on SLI. IMO the more complicated your system the more can go wrong.
Also dont bother upgrading your CPU to quad for games because firstly, AMD quads are not very good. Secondly, games dont take full advantage of a quad core CPUs so it would be a waste to upgrade at this point of time

Welcome to TechIMO!
The upgrade to a phenom is not worth it...your cpu is plenty fast.
As far as running SLI goes, sorry to say but thats not happening here. You've got a crossfire board by ATi, so you can indeed run crossfire if you had two ATi cards. However, to run SLI you need a nvidia based SLI supporting board, and likewise, two identical nvidia cards.
Regardless, your setup right up there with the top of the line so you shouldn't worry about upgrading for quite some time.
Not one setup out today can handle crysis completely maxed out at high res anyways.
