After re-installing XP, I noticed every once in a while the crt would turn black on the bottom half. By moving or, honestly slapping it, it would return to normal. I turned it off today and now it won't turn back on. No light but I hear a light beeping or clicking from the monitor. No beeps from the computer, I don't think. Obvious fix or lost cause? |

Welcome to TechIMO
If you've checked the cable connections and they are ok, I would guess that it died.
How old is it?

That can happen, but more then likely a cap blew out. It does happen from time to time.
Really, you could probably get it fixed, but really it probably won't be worth the $.
It's probably best your look into a new monitor.
Good Luck!
PS.

You can still get a CRT monitor if you want. Some stores still carry them. But my question would be, why CRT and not a LCD? |

They are. If you dont mind having a CRT, you can find them on CraigsList for 20$. Heck, I gave my CRT's away for free. Shipping cost more than what the product is worth.
But IMO, its worth spending 100$-200$ on an LCD. |

Can I have free CRT's?
Why have one resolution when you can have as many as you want.
Although, I can't tell what people mean when it looks bad at non native resolutions....
