Outlook 2003 Error Upon Opening

I have recently encountered this problem where Outlook will not open. The pop-up error window says "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Unable to open the Outlook window. The set of folders could not be opened. The server is not available. Contact your administrator if this condition persists."

Can anyone help???

Thank you!
Mike

can you give us more information?
are you on a corporate network?
I'm assuming this isn't a POP or IMAP connection?

are you on home exchange server?

what is your connection to your mail?
ie who is your mail provider?

go into control panel --> mail
check your profile, see if its looking to connect to an exchange server.

I'm using SMPT/POP accounts to access email. Would the error have anything to do with my PST files? Outlook window won't even open for me to detect and repair.

possibly a pst

try creating a new profile, and manually point it to your pst

i think this is due to the virus attack, corruption in PST file, software or hardware malfunction, improper use of application, power failure etc. when your PST file get corrupted you face some error
messages and you found yourself unable to access PST file. at that time you can lost your pst file you need to repair PST file in order to access your PST file.

If PST file was corrupted you can try a 3rd part tool called Advanced Outlook Repair. You can download a free demo version at http://www.datanumen.com/aor/aor.exe . I think it is a useful repair tool for you. It is easy to recover your PST file by using its wizard. It is a powerful tool to recover messages, folders and other objects from corrupt or damaged Microsoft Outlook PST files.

Detailed information about Advanced Outlook Repair can be found at http://www.datanumen.com/aor/
