Well, my first two questions are these. Did you check in advance to make sure you got the right ram, there are many different speeds and types. And two, have you ever done something like this before? Putting new ram in is a seemingly simple enough thing, but it is important to be sure that you are grounded, because a static shock from your body can fry the ram chip, and give you the problem you are having.
And as a separate note, if you can, it would probably be better to not add one ram chip, but to replace the first and put two new ones in so you can utilize dual channel, which will make the memory run faster.
