PC not pickup any IDE drives

I recently got a new case for my PC a Antec Nine Hundred. After I assembled everything into the case and went to power on the unit, it would post and stay on the splash screen after a short while it would advance to the next screen but than I would get a error message which says:

DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

I proceed and press enter and the same message would appear. I than shut down the unit and checked my cable connections. Everything seemed where they should be and plugged in properly. I power on the unit again and I receive the same message again. Now I restarted and went into the Bios and saw that I did not have HDD or Optical drive listed. I tested if they had power, I opened the optical drive tray and it worked as it should. After that I shut down the unit again, and looked at the cables again unplugging and re-plugging the IDE plugs. I booted the machine up and still got the same error. I decided to change the IDE cable and use a new one. Yes the cable was new it was still in the original wrapping that came with my mobo. I started to plug the cable in and when I got up to my HDD I was having an issue were it would not go all the way in, I checked the pins on the hdd and they looked straight and aligned. After so, I powered on the unit again only to get the same issue. Is it possible that the IDE controllers on the mobo is dead? There was small signs of life cause I tried this a couple of times and I got it to boot into the OS once, but the optical drive still didnt work. Than I checked the cable for that and than I would receive the original error message. And another time I did it, the optical drive worked but the HDD didn't. I really feel it was a faulty IDE cable but I had used 2 and the original one worked fine with the old case.

Currently the only things I have plugged in, is my IDE HDD, IDE optical drive, floppy drive, video card, sound card and 2 case fans.

I would like some recommendations on what I should do from this point, any advice would be appreciated.

Specs:
CPU: Intel Quad Q6600 2.4GHZ
Mobo: GigaByte GA-P35-DS3R
RAM 4GB Kingston HyperX DDR2 1066

Make sure that all drives are jumpered properly. Cable Select is the best choice. When using CS, the drive you want to be master MUST be on the end of the cable.

In BIOS Setup, be sure that you have the exact Windows drive set to boot. In the old days, you simply made the Windows drive the PRIMARY MASTER and chose SCSI if it was on a separate controller card. These days, you have to be specific about which drive boots.

Thanks for geting back to us.

Once again, you can save yourself a bunch of trouble by using Cable Select.
