| Help with wierd Vista Antivirus Virus "I think"
Howdy,
Got this problem, came home and went to log onto the box and this Vista Antivirus window pops up and starts pretending it's scanning and finding all kinds of virus's.............strange since I'm not running Vista, but XP. So I do a boot time scan and nothing, but cannot connect to the net.....?? So I log on in safe mode with networking and voila, connection made.......does anyone have any idea what the heck to what this is and how the heck to get rid of it. Not sure if I can do some sort of online scan and nuke or whether this nasty little bugger is already been solved and there's a cleaner somewhere for it.
Cheers, and thanks in advance,

It sounds like spyware.
I'd get an antispyware, like Adaware, or Spybot. That may take care of it. |

I'm running Spyware blaster and have both spybot search and destroy as well as Ad Aware SE that I'll run after my antivirus scan.........I know it's one of those bogus antivirus programs, but I havn't had one of those sneak through for a long time now..........maybe someone installed it unknowingly.....hopefully one of those will get rid of the pesky little bugger as it won't let me connect from a normal boot......
I'll keep posting until fixed
Cheers,

My wife's PC got that same program. At first I couldn't find it. After much searching and hair pulling, I found it in the Control panel under Microsoft Antivirus. I had assumed it was something that was downloaded via Automatic updates. I removed the entry and trouble no more! |

It's not really a "program". It's a hijack. Even if you got rid of the pop-up, it's likely that your wife's PC is still infected. Run the trial version of Counterspy to find out: Best Anti-Spyware - Remove Spyware with Free Trial
I had a co-worker who actually paid for "Ultra Antivirus 2008". Bad idea. Now that hacker has her credit card, identity and e-mail address. Her spam count shot through the roof in just 3 weeks. |
