| Can't connect to Internet but can use AIM okay so my computer for some reason just stopped letting me connect to the internet. I can use AIM but any other app that needs internet connection does not work. I've tried unplugging the internet cable for thirty seconds and putting it back in. I have Comcast High Speed Internet and my connection is only 100.0 mbps (which i have been told is slow for Comcast). I unplugged the cable and then shut the computer off, plugging it back in while it's shut off and then turning the computer back on. Any suggestions??? |

Start with checking for spyware, download and use some of the tools found in this thread Common Spyware Solutions I'd also suggest running hijackthis, this thread should help with that HijackThis Analyzer & Tutorial
Once that is done post back and someone here can give you more advice on troubleshooting.
You'll also need to check to see if you can ping websites, open the cmd line (start>run>cmd) type ping google.com if that doesn't work try ping 72.14.207.99
You can also try a winsock fix that fixes connection errors a lot of the time depending on the issue.

| similar problem
im having a similar problem, i can run aim, but no internet browsers work, firefox, ie, opera, they all say they cant connect. for a while i was getting a window asking to connect to a dial up connection, but if i hit cancel the page would usually resume loading and work, i have a local highspeed provider similar to comcast. i tried pinging google.com and was successful, average of 54ms. how are you supposed to download fixes or spyware removal if the internet doesnt work? |

| How are you on an internet forum asking for advice?
The obvious suggestion would be to use another persons computer, DL the files and burn them to a disk |
