| No Power...Bad PSU/CPU/BOARD?
Hey Guys, I thought it was clear when this whole situation went down, however a friends of mine is having some issues getting things straight....
One night, just playing a game, the computer went dead. No noise, No pops, No power shorts, No bumps...nothing...Running fine, then it was like someone unplugged the power.
So, I open the case, try turning on/off/on/off nothing. Now, When I turn the PSU on, from the master switch on the back, a green led light comes on my MB, Goes off when I UNPLUG or turn OFF the master switch itself. However, If I try the the power button on the case...nothing happens. The old PSU I had was a 550w I think? Was only running a P4 3ghz 2 gigs of ram, and an AGP 4x/8x Saphire X800GTO. Well, hes tried a working psu from two of his machines
a 400 and a 450 watt psu and says he gets nothing.
I dont have the make of mobo/psu except the basics which I mentioned....Im just curious if you had any ideas....PSU? CPU SHOT? MB Fried?
Like I said, there was no smell, no burns...nothing...looks like its always have. I just don't want to invest in the time/money in a PSU if thats not the "BEST" solution since getting to a location that sells cpu hardware is limited where Im from. Any Help would be appreciated!
Thanks! |

try one of the different psu's that are known to work... the cpu /MB , 1 stick of ram and the video card... ONLY... see if it will turn on and you can get into the bios...
if nothing, try the other stick of ram by itself and the MB and vid card...
if still a no go ... look for bad caps on the MB .. bulging at the top , leaking etc...
try a different video card as well... (if ones available) ...
sounds like a psu... but if you have tried 2 other ones that are KNOWN to work... it's possible the MB is shot or the cpu... hard to tell though which one...

If the power supply popped, the chances are good that the motherboard popped with it.
Yes - check caps: Badcaps.net - Badcaps Home
