Very strange mouse behaviour

Hi,

I have a very annoying problem affecting my windows USB mouse.

The left click will refuse to click on certain parts of windows such as the menu area, list boxes in web pages and tabs. I have to press the windows start button twice and then I can make a click, but thenext time I want to click the same thing happens.

It also occasionally refuses to click on the task bar or anywhwere else. To cure this one I have to ctrl alt delete to bring up the task manager, hen clcik off and it works again.

I have spybot and AVG installed and have performed many scans but to no avail.

Its really starting to get on my nerves and before I do a re-build I wanted to see if anyone has any ideas?

Thanks

Try another mouse?

Sorry if this seems painfully obvious, but swapping out the mouse is whole lot easier than reinstalling the OS.

ok sorry maybe I missed that off ! Been there done that. First thing I tried, this is not a simple mousey issue rather something more sinister....

I've tried usb mice and ps2 to no avail, all have the same problem.

I searched high and low for an answer and I'm now here....

Cheers
