| Error in LCD poster "Error Msg" right after DET IDE
Hello everybody, I come to you hoping to finally get the answer I need.
Recently I have purchased a new computer, it ran smooth at first without any problems then I turned it off and put in a 850W Power Supply in replacement of a 650W Power Supply. It was running fine at my computer shop but when I brought it home the LCD poster goes all the way up to "DET IDE" and then hits an "ERRORMSG" and goes no further. The next step is COM/LPT and this has to do with Serial connects. I am not sure if the LCD poster is referencing the error for the DET IDE, as that is the last successfull message I see before the error or if it is recieving the error the moment it attempts to check COM/LPT (serial). I have NO IDE devices, have attempted to take the CD rom and the SATA drive Serial ATA - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia out of the equasion and have tried a known working SATA drive with and without CD rom connected.
I then exchanged out the 850 back to the 650W Power Supply to see if that worked.... Nothing .....
No picture on my monitor, nothing. Just a "errormsg" on the LCD Poster.
Any assistance anyone may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated. System Stats:

Hi, welcome to TIMO.
My first thought, is clear the CMOS on the board, see if that does anything. It seems like it's trying to boot from the wrong drive, or the settings are just messed up in your BIOS. If you clear it, that should restore it back to a working system.
Also might want to double check that all of the the power plugs are plugged into the board. There should be a 8 pin aux power, plus the standard 24 pin cable. On some boards, they even have a additional molex connector going to the board. Double check that all of those are plugged in.
See if that turns up anything. |

| RE: Error in LCD poster "Error Msg" right after DET IDE
Thank you for your response KarmaKiller
I did attempt to clear CMOS and removed the battery for some time, while I stripped the board down to the mobo, ram and onboard video. I removed the CMOS battery, and when I replaced that and set to VGA video (onboard), I fired it up to find same error (error msg). I started with insure what was plugged in was seated properly (Thought I did this already - double checking myself), and when I fired the mobo back up it alarmed at me. I said explative and plugged all back in... Fired up.... Error MSG
Checked power connects and had a second set of eyes (three - Gotta love friends), looking to see that all looked plugged in correctly. It did fire up and run at the shop and the error started before going back down to the 650 PSU. All these eyes and nobody can figure it out - Grrr!
Thank you all for looking into this. I do not have any IDE devices, but maybe if I connect to IDE device and attempt to boot off that (Serial conn issue?). I did attempt to boot off CD. Will let you know what I find and any assistance or any Ideas from anyone would be greatly appreciated. |

Sorry to bring up old posts but i just thought I'd help out if your still looking at this,
I had the exact same problem yesterday! although i was using a 9800gx2 graphics, but i managed to fix it by connecting the monitor cable to the other graphics port on the card...... I can only put it down to when it boots if theres no picture it says "errormsg", try hitting the delete button as it loads to get into the bios, if the LCD says "en setup" then you know its just a case of something is not right getting a picture.
Try just one graphics card, try an older one if you can (i tried an 8800GT), then if it still wont work don't put any graphics cards in and use the onboard lol
Hope it helps someone as i spent hours trying all sorts!

| Me too...
Hi MichaelA87
You are not alone brother...just fired up my system for the first time I get all the way up to DET IDE & ker-splat.
Brand new case, CPU, PSU, RAM everything. Nothing but a black screen - and holding down DEL does not take me to the BIOS or the next step.
Did you have any luck fixing the problem??

| AlmightyJu was right! FIXED
Well you were right AlmightyJu. I took out a stick of RAM - and connected the VGA cable rather than the DVI cable to my monitor...and it worked! Loaded Windows and will now play with a BIOS flash.
Cheers-all! |

Alright so I just got my Crosshair II Formula and I Set if up for the first time and everything worked fine. Then right after is installed SP1 for Vista. Everything went down hill. My Computer no Longer boots at all. I cant even see the anything just a black screen.
When i look on the little LCD screen on my Mobo. It says "ERRORMSG" this happens directly after is say "DET IDE"
All the lights on my motherboard are all green accept for one the HDD light is Orange.
Here is a list of my Set up. Crosshair II Formula
AMD 6400+
BFG 8800 GTX OC Edition
4GBs OCZ platinum
1000W OCZ Power supply
2 WD 250GB HD's SATA
20X HP DVDRW
I have looked on a few other Forums and they suggest to a bare minimum set-up and reset the CMOS. I did that and it didn't help.
I took my graphics card out and tryed using the on board video. That worked once But it no longer does. I have Tested each part of my computer individually (I think).
I am pretty computer literate and i am almost completely stumped.
