Help with new system configuration

I just got a new Dell system and am going to move some things from my old PC to the new. Wondering if I can install the hard drive from the old machine (as a third drive - there's room) and run my applications only off of that old drive. I'm trying to save the hassle of reintalling all the applications.

I think I can point the application icons to the old third drive to run from there - correct? Any drawbacks?

Are you talking like your OS, or just programs and apps?
If it's just programs and apps, some might work, other probably won't. It really depends on how hardware specific those apps/programs are.
I've done what your talking about doing. And I pretty much had 50/50 luck.
Some I got to work with no problems, others I had to reinstall.
If your talking OS though, that won't work.
