CD not booting

I have a HP Pavilion and using F1 to go into BIOS and set the CD to top position and save changes. When I boot the desktop up it asks like it does not see the WIN XP cd. But the cd-rom lights up. Any clues ?

I just read this:

F1 to get into setup, and ESC to get into the boot menu.
Just choose to boot from the CD/DVD in the boot menu and it should work.
It sounds like after pressing F1, you press ESC to get to get to the boot menu, select the CDROM, and off you go.

you may need to press a button when prompted to boot from CD as that has been a popular choice in BIOS's for some years.

It seems that you have the BIOS set up properly, but the system is not reading your XP disc and booting from it.

Try disabling all other boot devices in the BIOS. Then if you get a "No boot device found, hit any key to continue", just keep hitting any key and it will keep trying to read the disc. Eventually, it will.
