Can't remove Kaspersky 7.0 from my PC

Hello,

I tried removing Kaspersky 7.0 from my PC via "Modify, Remove" option, but it shows the error "Installer not loading" and some related to I/O threads. I tried logging in Safe mode as well as using "msconfig.exe". Anyways i am not able to remove. I am currently using Avast, which is perfect.

I would like to have a suggestion for this!!! Please help.

Thanks

There are a couple of things you could try.

One would be to reinstall Kaspersky, then try uninstalling it again. The last time I installed Kaspersky it didn't mind Avast being installed alongside it so this may work without removing / readding Avast.

Another tool is the Installer CleanUp utility from MS that can help remove installer remnents when the bulk of the program has been removed but it still appears to be installed in the Windows interface.

If you're looking for a powerful and versitile start-up analysis and removal program my favorite in the past has been Autoruns by Sysinternals. That can help identify most startup routines and remove them.

** Usual disclaimer: always backup your data if you can't afford to lose it before doing things such as the above.

RE: Can't remove Kaspersky 7.0 from my PC

Thank you very much for the information and reply. Yes, I installed Avast without removing Kaspersky and its working good. Still I would like to remove Kaspersky as it shows the dialog box to purchase the product (the key I used to install has been blacklisted). When it shows this dialog box often, my PC perfomance becomes low. Also, i have 256MB RAM.

I will try your suggestion over this weekend and let you know!

OK, I better see how it is currently installed - it sounds as though it's fully installed and running, as I wasn't quite sure if it was partially installed and lingering. I don't think the installer cleanup is a good idea unless you have to use it to fool kapersky into reinstalling...which could still be a risky task.

I would first try the reinstall/uninstall. If that doesn't work you can use the autoruns to disable the startup routines and then manually remove the program directory before rebooting however your registry will need cleaned, so if you can get Kaspersky to uninstall somehow that would be best.

Hi,

When I tried regedit.exe, it says "Register editor is disabled by Administrator"; even I am in the administrator login. Please let me know how to enable this.

So that i can proceed further.

Thanks for all your support

It sounds like the account named "Administrator" has been reduced to sub-administrator access rights. Is this your PC, a company PC, or someone else's?
